An exhaustive auction that stretched for more than an hour took an unexpected turn when the auctioneer began throwing some of the seller’s household items into the price to sweeten the deal.

More than 80 bids had been placed for the Glenhaven acreage at that point, with bidding well over $4 million, and auctioneer Will Hampson pledged the large pool table would be included in the price.

The acreage auction was contested by 10 bidders.
A buggy used to drive around the 2Ha property was also dangled in front of bidders as a potential inclusion to get them to offer more. Mention of the buggy even attracted a side offer of $20,000 for the vehicle on its own.

The house on Glenhaven Rd eventually sold without the buggy included for $4.726 million. The opening bid was $2.5 million.

Mr Hampson commented during the auction that whatever price it sold for would be cheap in years to come. “It will be $9 million before you know it,” he said.
